  Responsibility

story on responsibility:

Tunde was a 14-year-old boy living in a small town with his parents and younger sister. One rainy afternoon, while walking home from school, he noticed a brown leather wallet lying on the wet pavement near the market. He picked it up and saw it contained a large amount of money, a national ID card, and some business receipts.

Instead of keeping it, Tunde remembered his father’s advice: “True responsibility means doing the right thing, even when no one is looking.” He rushed to the nearby police station and handed over the wallet. The officers praised his honesty and promised to find the owner.

Later that day, a woman named Mrs. Adeyemi arrived at the station, frantic and tearful. She had lost her wallet while shopping for her children’s school supplies. When she received it back, untouched, she was overwhelmed with gratitude. She asked to meet the boy who returned it.

When she met Tunde, she hugged him and offered him a reward, but he politely declined, saying, “I just did what I was supposed to do.” His parents were proud, and his act of responsibility became a lesson for everyone in the town.

From that day, Tunde became known as a role model. He learned that responsibility isn’t just about tasks—it’s about making choices that reflect honesty, courage, and care for others.
